semaglutide price update

Semaglutide is an FDA approved once weekly injectable medication for weight loss. Unfortunately, because it was just approved by the FDA in the summer of 2021, it is still very expensive and most insurance companies will not cover it.   However, Semaglutide, the active ingredient in Wegovy, can be compounded by a specialized pharmacy and shipped to your door.   Semaglutide works by increasing Leptin, a satiety hormone, that helps us feel and stay full. It acts on the central nervous system by binding to opiate receptors in the brain to suppress appetite, cravings and even food drive. It regulates insulin and blood sugar imbalance, which is a common cause of difficulty losing weight and, as an added bonus, it down regulates TNF Alpha, which reduces systemic inflammation.

Side Effects

  • Nausea, Fatigue, Gas Heart Burn

  • Can potentially increase in anxiety or depression

  • Should be avoided with a history of pancreatitis

  • Should not be used in person with personal or family history of multiple endocrine neoplasia or thyroid cancer, as animal studies have shown a potential risk for C-Cell thyroid tumors such as Medullary Thyroid Carcinoma.
